Concertino

Concertino for piano and orchestra (1946)

It was Serocki’s graduation piece at the end of his composition studies in Łódź. It was performed for the first time on 13 March 1947 in Bydgoszcz. The Pomeranian Symphony Orchestra played under Arnold Rezler’s baton, with the composer himself playing the piano.

Concertino  consists of three movements: Allegro molto e con fuoco, Intermezzo – Andante espressivo  and Rondo – Allegro vivace. First section uses the sonata form and is characterised by considerable thematic unity and lively temperament. The middle part introduces a quiet, lyrical mood in an ABA form. The finale, in the form of a rondo, is a fiery oberek, in which the piano part reveals a motoric rhythm and harsh percussion sounds.
